Please see below for instructions on how to install the new VPN, GlobalProtect, on your computer.


Installing GlobalProtect - Windows/PC


  1. Navigate to sra.vpn.upenn.edu using a web browser. This will load a screen with installation options.
  2. For Windows, select “Download Windows 64 bit GlobalProtect agent
  3. Once downloaded, Double-click on the file to run the installation.

  5. Once the application is installed, an icon will appear in the taskbar area (bottom-right-hand side of the taskbar). The GlobalProtect icon looks like a globe. GlobalProtect icon is a grey globe
  6. Click on the globe icon to open GlobalProtect.
  7. A Welcome screen will open first. Click on "Get Started"

Installing GlobalProtect - MacOS


  1. Navigate to sra.vpn.upenn.edu using a web browser. This will load a screen with installation options.
  2. For Mac, select “Download Mac 32/64 bit GlobalProtect agent
  3. Once downloaded, Double-click on the file to run the installation.

  5. Once installed, GlobalProtect will automatically open with a Welcome screen. Click "Get Started"

Connecting to the VPN, GlobalProtect 


  1. GlobalProtect should now be open on the connection screen
  2. Enter the SAS-specific Portal address: sra.vpn.upenn.edu

  3. Click “Connect
  4. A browser window will open and prompt for Pennkey credentials. This could take a moment to load.
    Please be patient and wait for the window to open so it does not get buried beneath other windows.
    1. Enter Pennkey and Pennkey Password then click “Log in”

    2. This will prompt for Two-Step Verification.
      Please check "Trust this browser". This will save the Two-Step information for a longer period of time and expedite your sign-in process.

  5. After entering the Two-Step (or Duo) prompt, GlobalConnect will confirm the connection by listing "Connected" on the GlobalProtect window. There will also be a small white check mark over the globe icon.


Disconnecting from the VPN 


  1. It is recommended to disconnect from the VPN when finished with your session or step away for a break. Remember to save and close any share drive documents before disconnecting from the VPN.
  2. Click on the GlobalProtect Globe icon
    1. On Macs: the upper-right-hand side of the menu bar
    2. On Windows: the bottom-right-hand side of the taskbar  
  3. Select "Disconnect"
